Takayama
Nestled in the mountains of Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, Takayama’s narrow streets are filled with interesting sights, including wooden merchant’s houses dating back to the Edo Period, small museums, and beautifully restored residences. The town is a popular base for hikers and features numerous historical and scenic walks. The twice yearly Takayama Festival is considered one of Japan’s best, and draws visitors from miles around.
